You can walk directly out of the front of the Hotel and meander along the riverbank, taking in all nature has to offer, including Otters, Herons and we often delight at the colourful plumage of species such as Kingfishers and lesser-spotted Woodpeckers. (They also visit our garden bird feeding stations) There are many documented walks in the vicinity, usually centred around Inns and other such ‘watering holes’, perfect to quench the thirst and satisfy the hunger of even the most energetic walkers. For the more adventurous there is the nearby ‘walkers-paradise’ in the Eskdale and Wasdale valleys which includes the challenging Scafell Pike, England’s highest peak.
We are an ideal base for exploring the many local attractions including Muncaster Castle, famous for it’s wonderful gardens and ‘Birds of Prey’ display. There is the famous La’al Ratty, (described by many as the most beautiful train journey in England). Maryport Aquarium is a good wet weather standby (It does rain here occasionally !) The Sheep and Wool Centre near Keswick is a delight for the children, especially if they like to meet farm animals….
Most of our guests compliment us on the range and quality of our ‘home cooked’ food, prepared in our kitchen to order, from fresh local produce. We believe it to be worth the extra wait and this sentiment seems to be echoed by our guests. We always have a fully stocked Bar and we serve several famous Cask Ales.
We look forward to welcoming you at our Hotel,
Michael and Elena Law
